"The Birth of Venus" is hand built from clay. Three heads with the names Venus, Astarte and Aphrodite, respectively, rest in the large sea shell on the top of the sculpture. Suspended above the heads is a package of birth control pills captured in a wire mesh house. In keeping with the Boticelli painting, flowers float in the air above and around the sculpture. The piece was done in response to the focused attack on women's reproductive rights...a battle thought to have been won many years ago.
