Fragile
The pieces in this body of work are connected by the theme of "fragile"...both conceptually and in the materials used to create them. Each piece has a single word title and represents the frailty or delicacy that exists in much of what we perceive to be invincible.
The materials used in making the work carry through with the theme as well. Clay can be a very fragile, yet strong, material to work with depending on the state of life it is in. The reputation of clay in the fine art world is also rather delicate...often not taken seriously as a fine art medium and frequently identified only with functional objects or knick-knacks.
Found objects and other media are also used in these pieces that may seem strong and durable but in reality have a fragile quality.
